Project Summary
Steganography aims to transmit information invisibly,
embedded as imperceptible alterations of cover data;
steganalysis aims to unmask the presence of such hidden
data. By combining steganography with cryptographic
mechanisms, it is possible to add valuable properties, which
are originally left to cryptographic systems. However, new
problems for cryptographic mechanisms arise from the context
of steganography. So far, these are not inspected
thoroughly.
We will tackle the challenge of coupling cryptography with
steganography from both directions. On the one hand, we will
carry out practical and theoretical attacks and on the other
hand, we will design improved systems.
Our goal is a best-practice catalogue of how to integrate
cryptography into steganographic systems as well as of
specific problems of encoding in the context of
steganography. We will back our advices with scientific
insights derived from experiments.
