My advice to all is when building the link, make sure you GROUND IT!!! the link will test ok without the ground connection but it will freeze if you plug in the link, so grounding is very important. I soldered the ground on just the one pin and it worked fine. Note: I'm using an Intel TX motherboard with a cyrix 200+ chip, and everything works dandy! Here's the text of my batch file: cd\ti85 ren *.85p *.85g ren *.85s *.85g link85xp.exe I tried the batch file included on the FAQ and it didn't work. It might be because I'm running Windows 95. This one works fine. I've actually made the parallel link and it works perfectly in both directions. Thanks to all those who helped me (especially Dan Evans for answering any seemingly obvious questions and of course Andreas Westfeld for designing it.) If anybody out there is thinking of building the link, I encourage you to do so, just for Zshell. The instructions on the web page are all correct, except when using the software to test if the link is working correctly, I had the link plugged into the calculator, where as the instructions said not to. (i don't know if it matters if the calculator is turned on or not) If I didn't do this, I didn't get the 'should be' values. Other than that, the rest is really common sense, (ie: make sure the wires aren't touching, are in the right holes... etc) I'm not sure what sort of diodes I bought, as I mixed them up when I received them (although I used matching pairs in the circuit.) However, I do know that they were either: Si fused whiskerless, Fast logic BAX13 (max reverse currant:200nA @ 50V or Si whiskerless, Fast Logic 1N4148 (max reverse currant:25nA @ 100V I don't know if the 'fused whiskerless' makes a difference or not, because I know bugger all about electronics! If anybody has any more questions, don't hesitate to mail me, Cheers, Damian -- --- Damian Jackman damian@jackman.demon.co.uk ____________________________________________________________ From dangent@st1.clc.cc.il.us Sun Jan 28 06:36:15 1996 Received: from irz201.inf.tu-dresden.de by irz301.inf.tu-dresden.de (8.6.12/8.6.12-s1) with ESMTP id GAA07579 for ; Sun, 28 Jan 1996 06:36:15 +0100 Received: by irz201.inf.tu-dresden.de (8.6.12/8.6.12-s1) id GAA10844 for aw4@irz.inf.tu-dresden.de; Sun, 28 Jan 1996 06:36:14 +0100 Received: from mail.lnd.coretech.com by irz201.inf.tu-dresden.de (8.6.12/8.6.12-s1) with ESMTP id GAA10840 for ; Sun, 28 Jan 1996 06:36:09 +0100 Received: from dangent.lnd.com (156.46.97.108) by mail.lnd.coretech.com with SMTP (Apple Internet Mail Server 1.0); Sun, 28 Jan 1996 00:47:25 +0000 Message-ID: <3109D9CB.203A@st1.clc.cc.il.us> Date: Sat, 27 Jan 1996 01:52:43 -0600 X-PH: V4.2@irz201.inf.tu-dresden.de From: Dan Gentleman Organization: Lakeland NetDirect X-Mailer: Mozilla 2.0b6a (Win95; I) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: aw4@inf.tu-dresden.de Subject: Parallel port hookup X-URL: http://www.inf.tu-dresden.de/~aw4/ Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Status: RO I could kiss you!
